Show us the aliens!

SR 1174 UFO 4.

Pentagon, show us the aliens!

Pentagon, show us the aliens!

Get ready for one more assault on the US citadel of secrecy by the disclosure soldiers.

When? The final week of July 2023.

Where? Washington.

Who? The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Accountability.

This time the unrest comes within the government citadel, not from external demands by a UFO disclosure soldier. Recently, according to NBC News, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., introduced an amendment to the annual defense policy bill that would seek to declassify UFO-related records. Pentagon, show us the aliens!

Republican Tennessee U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett has denounced the Pentagon for keeping secrets from the taxpayers. Burchett assures us that upcoming congressional hearings are a bipartisan effort to disclose the truth regarding UAP. Burchett whines that the very Pentagon term, UAP or Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, is just one more ploy to hide the fact that we’re all anxious to get the scoop on UFOs.

Whom will the committee interview? David Grusch, a former U.S. intelligence official; David Fravor, a former Navy commander; and Ryan Graves, a former Navy pilot. Graves and Fravor both claim to have spotted UAPs. And Grusch has claimed the U.S. has retrieved “intact and partially intact” vehicles of non-human origin.

Will the Oversight Committee actually show us the aliens? Not likely.

Get ready for another disappointment.

“Alien” David Penfound

Should we sit on the front edge of our chairs just hoping that in the next moment all will be revealed? Will we finally get the truth? Will we on earth finally see the evidence that an advanced extraterrestrial civilization has been visiting us? I doubt it.

I’m a pessimist. In a recent post, “UFO Whistleblowing,” I justify my doubts. Why? Because of a longstanding myth, of sorts. Belief in a government conspiracy is a myth—myth understood as a framework for interpretation. This myth is equiprimordial with the sightings themselves. Both begin in 1947.

This does not mean the content of the myth is necessarily false. But it does suggest that public frustration with governmental secrecy is self-reinforcing. Obliquely, the public loves being denied the truth. Why?

Here’s my cultural observation. It’s an observation you may not like. Americans don’t want to simply meet the alien piloting a landing or crashed spacecraft. Rather, Americans want the confidence that Uncle Sam knows more than we do. Americans want the confidence that the Pentagon has gained knowledge from the stars that will make the US military omnipotent.

Conclusion

Do I say: “show us the aliens!”? You betcha.

Will I pay attention to what the House Oversight Committee discovers in its hearings? You betcha.

Am I expecting that finally we’ll get to see physical evidence of crashed alien spaceships and extraterrestrial technology? No. My hopes are not high.
